1 〔下方〕 the lower [nether] part; 〔川の下流〕 downriver.

2 〔相手より低い地位〕

●下手に出る assume a humble [low] attitude 《toward…》; 〔目上のものが〕 condescend 《to do》

3 【囲碁･将棋】 a lower grader; a lower-grade player.

したて【仕立て】

〔着物などを縫い上げること〕 sewing; tailoring; 〔裁ち方〕 a cut.

●最新流行の仕立てである be of the latest cut [style].

●仕立てがよい[悪い] 〔衣服が〕 be well [badly] tailored [cut]

・仕立てが上手だ 〔人が〕 be good at tailoring; be a good tailor.

●仕立てに出す give 《material》 to a shop [tailor] to have it made into 《a kimono》.

●仕立てのいい服 a well-tailored suit.
